Leicester City midfielder, Riyad Mahrez, a great opportunity was awarded Best Player. However, Mahrez claimed to prefer the Premier League title for his club.
Mahrez indeed appear so impressive in the domestic arena. So far, players from Algeria was a success scored 16 goals from 33 Premier League games.
Mahrez also credited with bringing the strongest candidate Leicester Premier League champions. Now, Leicester are top of the standings with five points advantage over second place clubs, Tottenham Hotspur.
No wonder, thanks to the impressive achievement, Mahrez nominated Best Player version Association of Professional English footballer (PFA).
Another Leicester player nominated is N'Golo Kante and Jamie Vardy. However, Mahrez considered to have a better chance than the two colleagues.
Moreover, Vardy which is Leicester's top scorer this season, had to undergo the punishment suspended due to red cards in the game contra West Ham United, on April 17, 2016.
Nonetheless, Mahrez not necessarily arrogant. He admitted to not target the personal rewards and just want to focus on bringing Leicester into the Premier League champions.
"I prefer to win the title for the team, even though I am not a big player," said Mahrez to the Leicester Mercury, Friday (04/22/2016).
"The team is the most important. If I won the award, it is a good thing. However, it is not my goal," said the 25-year player.
Earlier, not many people know Mahrez. He recruited Leicester in January 2014 from French club second tier, namely Le Havre, with the official affordable.
Now, the name is also associated with a number of top European clubs, including Arsenal and FC Barcelona.
In the next Premier League game, Mahrez et al will face Swansea City at the King Power Stadium, Sunday (24/04/2016).
