Lampung FSRU, Increasing uptake of domestic LNG production
Director General of Oil and Gas Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) I Gusti Nyoman Wiratmaja, stated that the current natural gas infrastructure in Indonesia is still lacking.
Both the infrastructure of natural gas pipelines and other facilities such as to accommodate and regasify liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Downstream natural gas pipeline length in Indonesia, for example no more than 10,000 km. While the facility to accommodate the LNG and regasification still lacking. The existence of natural gas infrastructure is still minimal it makes Indonesia's natural gas has not been fully utilized for domestic purposes, so that the gas Indonesia and then exported.
That's why the government continues to encourage the development of natural gas infrastructure in the country. As performed by PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) that build facilities Regatification Floating Storage Unit (FSRU) Lampung.
"The government gives a great appreciation to PGN in the construction of the Lampung FSRU. The existence of Lampung FSRU is the government's success in encouraging the development of natural gas infrastructure," said Wirat, in Jakarta, Monday (25/04/2016).
FSRU Lampung PGN (dok. PGN)
The existence of Lampung FSRU is very strategic because it can increase the uptake of LNG for domestic and also reduce export LNG, thereby increasing the utilization of natural resources for the national economy.
"Increased uptake of LNG FSRU Lampung managed PGN has strategic implications for the utilization of natural gas in the country. This is also in accordance with government measures continue to reduce exports of LNG national prioritizing domestic consumption. Through the development of infrastructure such as FSRU Lampung energy security will getting stronger and the economy can grow over the long term, "he said.
Various natural gas infrastructure built by PGN is a long-term investment. Therefore, optimizing the use of infrastructure like this takes time. As with the Lampung FSRU also unlikely capacity will be immediately used up to 100% once completed.
In 2016, PGN Lampung FSRU LNG planned to get a supply of 1.1 million cubic meters of LNG Tangguh in Papua. On 2 April 2016 Lampung FSRU already receive LNG supply from Tangguh as much as 1 cargo. Yesterday on Sunday (04/24/2016), Lampung FSRU back got a shipment of LNG from Tangguh. In addition to the allocation of Tangguh, PGN also is negotiating to supply from other sources.
The process of transfer of LNG (doc. PGN)
President Director of PT PGN LNG Indonesia, Mugiono, said the Lampung FSRU will strengthen PGN natural gas supply, particularly for customers in West Java and southern Sumatra.
"Before delivery, the LNG will go through the process of regasification (change in liquid to gas). From the FSRU Lampung, the gas flows through the subsea pipeline leading to the receiving station in Labuan Maringgai connected by pipeline South Sumatra-West Java (SSWJ) so that the gas the PGN can be distributed to customers in western Java and southern Sumatra, "he explained.
Mugiono added that the presence Lampung FSRU PGN can supply gas to different segments of customers began to SMEs, industry, households, and the electricity sector. PGN's FSRU will also be directed to support the fulfillment of energy needs in order to realize the 35 thousand MW power project is a priority of President Joko Widodo.
Mugiono stressed, PGN will continue to increase Lampung FSRU role in adding value to the economy, particularly through the supply of energy that are environmentally friendly, efficient and secure.
"We will also continue to support government efforts to reduce the export of LNG to optimize the natural gas infrastructure in the country," said Mugiono.
