US Journalist Beheaded family ISIS, Sues Government of Syria
Family US journalist, Steven Sotloff, who beheaded ISIS, sued the Syrian government because it is providing material support to the militant group.
In a letter to the suit filed on Monday (04/18/2016) in the US District Court in Washington DC, parents and brothers Steven Sotloff demanded compensation of 90 million dollars, or around Rp 1 trillion from the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
So far not obtained information on how the money was obtained when a family Sotloff win this case.
In the lawsuit, the family Sotloff argued that the Syrian government creates and then forming ISIS as "false opponents" in the Syrian civil war.
In addition, the presence of ISIS is believed to be used as a negotiating tool the regime of Bashar al-Assad with Western countries who wanted him to leave his post.
"The killing of journalists such as Sotloff make West that had been the goal to get rid of Assad turned into defeat ISIS and make Assad 'allies' needs," according to a letter Sotloff family suit.
"Material support Syria's ISIS cause abduction and murder of Steven Sotloff," continued the lawsuit.
Furthermore, in the lawsuit known that the Syrian government to provide financial support, material support and air strikes as well as directly to ISIS instructions through its intelligence agencies.
The lawsuit also attach a footnote citing US and British officials who said that the actual Assad and ISIS have financial cooperation, though on the surface they look combated.
Assad, according to the lawsuit, the illegal purchase of ISIS oil and crude oil purchasing process is beneficial to both parties.
Steven Sotloff entered Syria in 2013 from Turkey and was kidnapped while in the city of Aleppo. About a year later beheading Sotloff distributed throughout the world via video released by ISIS.
